Boston – The Bay State Stonewall Democrats on Monday became the latest LGBTQ-rights organization to endorse Mike Lake, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor for Massachusetts.
Citing his long-standing commitment to LGBTQ and equality, BSSD Secretary called Lake the right leader to occupy the Lieutenant Governor’s office and advocate for the LGBT community.
“Stonewall Democrats is proud to endorse Mike Lake for Lt. Governor of Massachusetts,” Secretary Joe Kaplan said. “Mike has a history of being at the forefront of advancing the rights and dignity of the LGBT community and will continue to do so as Lieutenant Governor. We are pleased that he is running and delighted to endorse him.”
Lake said on Monday that he is honored to have the support of the Bay State Stonewall Democrats.
“I am proud to have the support of the Bay State Stonewall Democrats,” Lake said. “I have advocated for LGBT rights for many years and continue to make the human and civil rights of everyone the centerpiece of my campaign. I will continue to advocate for the rights of the LGBT community everyday as Lieutenant Governor.”
The endorsement comes as a string of endorsements. Earlier in the year, Eileen Duff, the state’s highest ranking LGBT official endorsed Lake. Shortly after, Katherine Patrick, prominent LGBT advocate, also threw her support behind Lake.
A former appointee for President Clinton, Lake launched his campaign for Lieutenant Governor in March 2013. He is President and CEO of Leading Cities, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening ties between Boston and cities worldwide. Lake has amassed endorsements from leading activists, business leaders, labor unions, social justice organizations and government leaders, including former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis.
