(Boston, MA June 28, 2010) – Mike Lake, Democratic candidate for State Auditor, today announced his opposition to casinos in Massachusetts in the following statement:
“Casinos are the wrong choice for Massachusetts, and just a short-term fix to long-term problems,” said Mike Lake, Democratic candidate for State Auditor. “We need a plan that will create good sustainable jobs for Massachusetts - like those created through investments in clean energy technologies – instead of plans that bring casinos to the Commonwealth and the negative social burdens that come with them for too many of our families and children. Casinos are also prohibitive to regional economic growth, as witnessed by a 57% decrease in general merchandise earnings for businesses within 50 miles of Foxwood-style casinos according to a Harvard University study.”
