Former Gov. Michael Dukakis on Airwaves to Support Mike Lake for Lt. Governor

Boston – Former Governor Michael S. Dukakis is taking to the airwaves to encourage voters to support Mike Lake for Lieutenant Governor.

The 30-second ad, which airs through Election Day, marks the first time that the former Governor has supported a Primary candidate like this in a radio ad. Governor Dukakis, the longest-serving governor in Massachusetts’ history, endorsed Lake early on in his campaign, marking only the second time that he has endorsed a statewide candidate in a Primary election.

Dukakis has stumped for Mike Lake around the state, most recently in Jamaica Plain and Peabody. During the ad, Dukakis hails Lake for his leadership skills and experience.

“Believe me, I know what a good lieutenant governor is…that’s why I’m supporting Michael Lake. Born in Melrose, raised by his widowed mother, Mike understands the challenges facing Massachusetts’ families,” Dukakis said.

The ad ends with a strong call to support Lake.

“Michael Lake has the experience to lead.”

Citing Dukakis’s long history in politics and reputation for integrity, Lake said he is honored to have Dukakis’s support.

“Nobody exemplifies integrity and experience in government, like Michael Dukakis,” Lake said. “He has spent his life fighting for progressive causes and family issues, such as healthcare, transportation and the economy. My campaign is built on those same values.”

The ad airs on WBZ this afternoon during drive time and runs through Election Day.

A former Clinton appointee, Lake launched his campaign for Lieutenant Governor in March 2013. He is the President and CEO of Leading Cities and has amassed support from activists, business leaders, labor unions and government leaders.
