BOSTON, MA — Democrat Mike Lake has announced his bid to succeed Joe DeNucci as Massachusetts State Auditor. His broad managerial experiences within the non-profit, government and business sectors have prepared him to take on the challenges faced by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Currently, Mike is the Executive Director of the World Class Cities Partnership and a Senior Associate for the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy.

Mike’s career in public service has spanned two United States Presidents as Special Assistant for White House Operations, effectively managing the day-to-day operations and procurement for the White House, a $54 million government agency. Prior to being appointed by President Clinton, Mike served the former Prime Minister of Ireland as a policy research analyst. More recently, Mike served as Director of Development for United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. Notably, he helped raise a record-breaking $3 million.

A native of Melrose, Massachusetts, Mike graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University with five undergraduate majors (simultaneously): Finance, Management Information Systems, Political Science, Communications, and Entrepreneurship. Mike also serves as a board member for the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH), the Boston Representative for the German Marshall Fund's Transatlantic Cities Network, the Executive Director of Northeastern's College of Business Talent Development Committee, and as an Alumni Mentor.

“I will diligently pursue greater returns on every tax dollar for the people of Massachusetts, protecting the resources of the Commonwealth and preserving the integrity of government,” Lake says.

“I bring a fresh perspective, new ideas and an independent voice to the office. By expanding on the strong foundation built by Auditor DeNucci, I intend to establish a 21st century, proactive approach to analyzing and modernizing state agencies to improve efficiency and accountability in government.”
