Mike Lake Praises Efforts For Veterans, But More Can Be Done

(Boston, MA- December 18, 2013): Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor Mike Lake, a Clinton White House appointee and President and CEO of Leading Cities, visited the Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea on Monday to witness the needs of and services provided to our veterans.

“I am impressed with the impact that the Chelsea Soldiers Home and the Administration has had and with their ability to stretch every dollar to its maximum benefit to our veterans, but there is great need to support these heroes even more,” said Lake. “The care and service at the Chelsea Soldiers Home is inspiring, however, they need more resources, more housing, more support from the community and the state.” Established in 1882, the Soldiers’ Home is a multifaceted health care facility available to eligible veterans of Massachusetts. The services provided range from long-term care for more than 170 veterans to housing and transitional services, which provide increased opportunities for veterans to further their education and secure employment.

The tour follows shortly after former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis endorsed Lake’s candidacy for Lt. Governor, marking only the second occasion in which the former Presidential nominee endorsed in a contested statewide primary.

Lake was appointed by President Clinton as Special Assistant for White House Operations and is the President and CEO of Leading Cities, an international organization that focuses on exchanging solutions to municipal challenges and creating jobs through business development. Lake’s vision for the Lt. Governor’s office involves working to realize what he calls the Massachusetts Promise—a promise of opportunity that comes with high-quality education, job creation, and strong communities.
