(Boston, MA- January 30, 2014): State Representative Josh Cutler of the Sixth Plymouth District officially announced his endorsement of Democratic Mike Lake for Lt. Governor of Massachusetts this week. Supporting Lake, Cutler emphasized, “More so than any other constitutional office, the role of the Lt. Governor is dependent on the type of person who holds the position and what he or she makes of it. Mike brings exactly the kind of energy and passion for public service to make the most of this role and be a true partner for our next Governor.”
Cutler—the first Democrat to hold the seat of the Sixth Plymouth District since the reconstruction era following the Civil War—said that what separates Lake from his opponents is his recognition of the importance of small business communities in moving the economy forward and upward, in addition to his thorough understanding of the issues facing specific districts.
“I’m extremely honored to receive this endorsement from Representative Cutler,” said Lake. “Josh and I share an understanding that small businesses and our startup ecosystem create jobs and provide economic empowerment opportunities to the citizens of the Commonwealth and better delivers on the Massachusetts Promise: economic and social justice through quality education, job creation and safe communities.”
Lake—a Clinton White House appointee and President and CEO of Leading Cities—joined Cutler on a tour of Island Creek Oyster’s Duxbury farm where he educated himself on the growing aquaculture industry and the importance of sustainable farming. Lake was also a guest at a family event hosted by Rep. Cutler at the Hanson Children’s Museum in December where they met and engaged with local families from the South Shore in building gingerbread houses.
“As a coastal legislator, I know Mike shares my concerns with issues such as sea level rise and protection of our natural resources, as well as ensuring we continue to be a leader in renewable energy and green jobs,” said Cutler. “His focus on broadening markets and boosting investments will help create new economic opportunities and promote Massachusetts as a great place to do business.
Representative Cutler and his wife Leslie will be hosting an event for Lake at their home in Duxbury on Saturday, February 1st at 7pm. All are welcome.
